Mythic Troops are the rarest Troops you can get in Gems of War, and are usually the most powerful. Pulling a Mythic is what every player wants and the end game is largely about trying to fill your Mythic collection. So how do you get these much sought after 6-star Mythics?
Ways To Get Mythic Troops
All Troops can be Ascended from their base Rarity to Mythic, but that doesn’t change their Mana colours or Traits. So we really want natural Mythics (‘Base Rarity’ Mythic in game terms).
There are several ways to get specific Mythics, for example occasionally during game events or by crafting them in the Soulforge (the latter requires resources probably beyond the average low to mid level player). However only a limited selection of Mythics are available like this. The vast majority are obtained by using Keys to open Chests.
Excluding VIP chests – which are only available when you’ve spent enough real money to reach VIP Level 5 – you can get Mythic drops from Event, Gem, Glory and Guild chests. Gold Chests never drop Mythics (or any Troops better than Rare). Event Chests have a slightly better chance to give you a Mythic than Gem Chests, but can also give you lousy Common Troops. Gem Chests don’t give Troops lower than Ultra-Rare rarity. So I prefer to concentrate on Mythics unless looking for a Mythic specific to the current Event.
I say that Event Chests have a ‘better’ chance than Gem Chests to drop a Mythic, but a more accurate description would be ‘less bad’. It’s 0.11% for a Event Chest as opposed to 0.1% for a Gem Chest.
Yes, 0.1 percent. That’s an average of one Mythic per thousand Gem Chests. You can get 50 Gem Chests for 450 Gems, so 9 Gems per chest if you buy in bulk. Which means an average of 9,000 Gems required to get a single Mythic. That’s a mind-blowing figure, especially if you’re a beginner. An no, there isn’t a pity system. There’s also no duplicate protection.
Being a member of a good Guild can massively improve the rate at which you get Gems and Keys. But for an F2P player like me, the main way to get Mythic Troops is to play a lot and have patience.
