In most (not all) Gems of War Game Modes, if you win a battle then you gain a random Traitstone along with any mode-specific rewards. If you’re like me, you’ll ask yourself: what are the probabilites of getting the different rarities of Traitstone? What are my chances of a valuable Celestial Traitstone after a fight? Not that it will do you any good to know, but if you’re like me you’ll still want to know.
Like many things in the game, the Traitstone drop rate is not published (as far as I know). Obviously, I have no special access to the numbers in the game and wouldn’t know how to extract them even if I wanted to. But what I can do is keep records and share the results of my own experience.
The table below gives the approximate percentage chance I’ve experienced of each rarity of Traitstone dropping. This is based on collecting the results from 1,000 battles. Yes, one thousand – I really am that sad.
| Minor | Major | Runic | Arcane | Celestial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60% | 30% | 8% | 1.5% | 0.5% |
As I said, that’s only an estimate based on my experience. In particular, the low numbers for Arcane and Celestial are likely influenced by noise in the limited dataset. And, of course, the devs can change things at any time. But I think it gives you a rough idea. You won’t be collecting a lot of Traitstones from battle, so (eventually) you’ll want to craft them in the Soulforge.
Despite what some people have reported, I haven’t noticed any change in drop rates based on the difficulty of the battle.
And remember that these numbers don’t apply to all game modes. For example, Delve rooms have their own reward system and the Underspire only gives Minor Traitstones (at least to me).
