Leprechaun Deep Dive
Leprechaun is relatively easy to come by Ultra-Rare Troop, but he punches above his weight and scales up well. He’s useful at low level and if you Trait him up he can stay useful at intermediate levels, possibly even higher for specific purposes.
Leprechaun For Beginner Players
At low levels, Leprechaun’s primary feature is probably that it generates Gold. This can stack up fast, especially once you’ve bought the first one or two Traits. So for a Gold Farming team, Leprechaun is a no-brainer.
But there’s more to it than that. As well as gaining Gold, it’s Spell Explodes gems. This generates Mana for itself and the rest of your team. And the amount of Gems it Explodes scales with the amount of Gold you’ve collected this battle. More Gold means more Explosions, which means more Mana, which means more Spells, which means more Gold… This makes it an even better Gold farmer than it might first appear. And by providing Mana due to the ever-larger explosions, it significantly helps the rest of your team in combat.
Some people like to pair Leprechaun up with Rowanne, another good Troop for low level teams. Leprechaun and Rowanne are both Fey, so you can consider an all-Fey team to get the Troop Type Bonus.
Leprechaun At Intermediate Level And Above
Leprechaun really grows powerful once you’ve unlocked the 3rd Trait: Empowered. This means that it starts the battle with full Mana, so unless there’s something nasty like a Dungeon trap in play, it’s guaranteed to be able to cast its Spell on turn one. That’s a great start to its own scaling and, if you’re lucky, might give one or more of your other Troops full Mana for turn two. That initiative advantage can make all the difference, and the more powerful your other Troops, the more valuable that initiative becomes.
Because Leprechaun Explodes Green Gems, the first Green Troop in your squad is most likely to benefit from this initiative. So it works well with a Green team. Maybe team him up with some Goblins for the extra Turns? Or with other other Troops that scale with your Gold, for instance Bonnie Rose?
Of course, getting the Empowered Trait isn’t cheap. As well as Minor and Major Traitstones, buying all three Leprechaun Traits will cost you six Runic Green, six Runic Purple, and three Arcane Venom. That’s a big ask for a new player.
At higher levels, Leprechaun’s scaling might not be sufficient to justify a Team slot. But it can be very useful until then.
