What Is Gold Used For?
Gold is used when playing a game, during the recruitment phase between brawls. In general you need to use Gold to buy Characters and Spells, however there are various Heroes, characters, Spells and Treasures that can change this.
Gold can also be used to reroll your shop and get a new selection of characters to buy. You can reroll as often as you like, each reroll costs one Gold. Locking the shop does not cost Gold.
Note that you do not need to spend gold to get a Treasure. When you upgrade a character you are given a choice of three Treasures and can pick any one of them without payment.
Gold not spent at the end of the recruitment phase is lost (unless you have the Piggie Bank treasure).
How Do You Get Gold?
You get gold at the start of each recruitment phase. In the first round you get 2 Gold, the next 3 and so on until a maximum allocation of 12 per turn. Twelve gold is not a limit – you can go over that, it’s just that the game never gives you more than 12.
The easiest way to gain extra gold is to sell back your unwanted characters (drag them onto the shop). Note that you only get one gold back for each character sold this way, regardless of their level and upgrade status (exception: Golden Chicken sells for 2 Gold).
As always with this game, there are also a variety of Heroes, characters, spells and treasures that change the way the system normally works.
