The main way of obtaining characters is by purchasing them from your shop before each combat round using Gold. The maximum level of character available each round depends on the level of your Hero and goes up to 6.
All characters have an Attack and Health value, both of which can change during a fight. When a character reaches zero health it is dead and removed from the board – possibly tiggering a Slay ability if it has one.
When a character dies during a fight, it remains in your squad for future battles. One exception to this is Humpty Dumpty; if he is killed in a brawl then he is removed from your roster.
In general, if you gain three copies of the same character then it Upgrades to become a more powerful version of that character and you get to choose a Treasure of its level. Exceptions are Nian, Sea Terror which only needs two copies to upgrade and Puff Puff which never upgrades. The Spell Knighthood also allows you to upgrade a character, however you don’t get a Treasure this way.
Three upgraded characters do not upgrade further.
Characters in your shop are selected from a shared pool, so when you buy a character you make it more difficult for other players to ghet a copy. It’s not know how many copies of each character are in the pool except for the fact that there are only a total of 10 level 6 characters. How do you view the character pool? At the moment, you can’t.
