A random thought has floated through my head, which I’ve decided to share with you lucky people.
What do you eat during a long gaming session? If you’re like me, it’s probably packets of salted potato things (crisps here in the UK, chips in the US). My favourite are sour cream and onion Pringles.
But what if you want something more substantial (and less salty)? There’s only one answer:
A sandwich.
Why a sandwich as opposed to, say, pizza? Well, it’s said that the name ‘sandwich’ derives from John montagu, who was the 4th Earl of Sandwich in the 18th century. Montagu was a gamer (to be precise, a gambler). Like many of us modern gamers, he didn’t like to interrupt his sessions for something as mundane as eating. So he had the servants bring him his meat wrapped in bread, allowing him to eat without having to leave the gaming table.
Which means that a sandwich is the traditional food to eat during a gaming session. Of course, unlike Montagu, most of us don’t have servants. So we’ll have to make the sandwiches ourselves – here’s a list of toasted sandwich ideas.
I’m sure there are some people who would say that we should actually snack on healthy food like fruit. They’re right, of course. But I’d still prefer a toasted cheese and Marmite sandwich!
