The latest Gwent expansion, Once Upon A Pyre (Price of Power 1), has been released. To go with the new cards is patch 9.0. As well as support for the new cards and balance tweaks to old ones, plus a few bug fixes, here are the main changes in this version:
- Northern Realms Rework
A lot of players have said that Northern Realms (NR) was under powered compared to the other factions. With this patch they haven’t just been buffed but redesigned. Many cards that had limited Charges now have a Cooldown instead. Time will tell what difference this change makes to the meta.
- New Gameplay Mechanisms
Two new gameplay mechanisms have been added: Patience and Sabbath.
- New Reward Trees
Three new trees for spending those reward keys.
- Quality of Life (QoL) Improvements
Some minor changes such as having your favourite card show on the ‘play’ screen. Pretty trivial stuff when there are other things like colourblind support and prestige communication outstanding.
As for the expansion cards themselves, I’ll report back when I’ve spent more time with them. My first reaction is one of being underwhelmed by the emphasis on the Weather mechanism.
