Sjoelbak - Dutch Shuffleboard
Sjoelbak is a Dutch game also known as Sjoelen. It is frequently called Dutch Shuffleboard although it has little in common with shuffleboard other than the basic concept of sliding discs along a polished board. You can buy Sjoelbak sets under the name of Dutch Shuffleboard from many retailers. The Sjoelbak board is around six feet long and has four target arches at the far end. These are numbered from 1 to 4 which represents their scoring value. The players takes it in turns to slide all 30 of the wooden discs towards the targets.
It isn't simply a case of aiming for the "4" every time. For every "set" of four discs in all four arches their score is doubled from 10 (1+2+3+4) to 20. Thus with 30 discs the maximum possible score in one round is 148 (7*20 + 2*4).
The game is usually played over three rounds with the winner being the player who reaches the highest total.
